Assignment 8
My Plan
I am going to go to Falls Creek and take some photos in the fields there. Hopefully I can get some during Golden Hour too.
My Shoot
For this shoot I went one a walk with my mom in Falls Creek. It was really nice out, except the sky was too blue! I tried to take photos without the sky in them so much. I really like the way the grass is dead and yellow. Also, the cliffs are tan so it all really goes well with my portfolio. I like my photos of the rocks too, especially the rock with the orange moss on it. The light ended up being too bright for those, but that is okay. I also liked how to the shrubs were grey, they looked cool against the yellow grass and light brown dirt.
My Edits
I like how my edits look like old photos. I tried to turn down the saturation so the sky wouldn't look so blue. But, when I did that I didn't like the way it made the whole photo look. So after that I turned up the yellow hue to bring back the color. I am not sure which photo is my favorite, but it is probably the third one. I really like the way the dirt rode looks. I am not sure how I feel about the blue sky, I like it, but it doesn't exactly go with my tan portfolio.
Final
My final photo accomplishes my theme of neutral colors. Although, there is a weak spot, and that is the blue sky. I tried to turn down the saturation so it wouldn't be as blue but it still stands out a little. In this photo you see a dirt road winding through the valley with cliffs on either side. The grass and trees are dead and there is some red cliffs in the background. An element of art in this photo is space. You can see space because the trail winds back pretty far and the mountains in the back are really far. A principle of design in this photo is perspective because the camera views into the back of the valley instead of out. The camera is also centered in the road. The idea of this photo was to be a meadow. Parts of this photo fulfill that idea, but I like the way it really ended up too. The long dead grass makes it look somewhat like a meadow still. The story behind this photo is my mom and I went for a walk Sunday morning and it was beautiful out. We are trying to adopt a dog right now and we saw a dog there that looked just like the dog we are trying to adopt so we thought it was a sign. Overall, it was a fun shoot and I am proud of my final product. I am also proud of the way my whole portfolio turned out. At first I didn't think I was being super creative, but I found that neutral colors is the way I edit on my instagram too, so I truly think that is my style.
