Assignment 7
My Plan
I want to take pictures of buildings and architecture, but I am not exactly sure where I am going to do that. I could also take photos of the construction that is going on across the street from my house.
My Shoot
I had a fun time shooting these photos. There is construction across the street from my house, so I decided that the plywood would fit my theme pretty well. It was fun because I couldn't go over there until everyone was gone, and they all leave when it gets dark. Also, it is all fenced in so I had to get through the fence. I defiantly wasn't supposed to be in those houses. I think the photos look really cool though. I like that it is dark but hopefully I can lighten it up a little. I also really liked the way some of the windows looked and the way things were just laying on the floor. I feel like shoot is pretty unique and I am happy with it.
My Edits
I really love all of my edits. I am not sure how I am going to choose between them. I edited them mostly the same: I use the filter in Lightroom called "Soft Mist", then I turn up the yellow hue, and then mess with the highlights/shadows/lights/darks. I really like the way my edits turn out when I do this. I love the foggy aspect. I wasn't exactly sure how these would turn out because I took them at night, but I tried to make the dark as light as possible. The plywood turned out just how I wanted it. I really love the way the wood beams give the photos depth too. I also like that I have one outlier. I like that photo a lot but it probably won't be final because it is too dark.
Final
I believe I successfully created a piece that goes with my portfolio theme of neutral colors. The weakness in this piece is that it was dark outside and you can see the darkness out the windows. Other than that the plywood is successful towards the neutral theme. In this photo you see and empty house that is unfinished. So, there is plywood everywhere, there are beams and things on the floor, and there are unplaced windows. An element of art in this photo is line. Line can be seen in many parts of this photo: the beams that will be the wall, the segments of windows, the diagonal lines that lead up to a higher ceiling, and the lines across the ceiling. A principle of design used in this photo is movement. When you follow one line it moves you all around the photo, to other lines. It is really cool, there is quite a bit going on so your eyes are always moving around this photo. My idea for this shoot was to take photos of a construction site. I am happy that I was able to get that done. It isn't exactly a construction site but I am very happy with the way this unfinished house looks. The mood of this photo is kind of creepy because it is dark and it almost looks abandoned, even though it is the opposite. I think it is the fact that is dark outside and things are laying on the ground that makes it look creepy. Overall, I am very impressed with how these photos turned out, I really like them.
